On Saturday 17th June from 10am until 1pm artist Louise Short will be undertaking a hat making workshop called ‘This is More Than Just a Hat‘ at studioMADE. Following on from this workshop will be a discussion from 2pm – 4pm around the future of transport in Denbigh, which is linked to themes in the current exhibition ‘Lost in Transit’.
In preparation for her workshop and discussion on Saturday, Louise began looking into how she would reach the gallery via public transport. The result was a much diverted route using many buses that would take a full day if all connections were successful, but possibly even two days if not. Louise felt there must be a better way and so began planning a collaboration with SusTrans to ride by eBicycle from her home in Cwmrheidol to The Carriageworks in Denbigh.
In the words of the artist it is a journey that may ‘inevitably fail’ due to the treacherous roads and lack of cycle routes, but through this failure Louise feels there will be fuel to talk through in the discussion on Saturday. Given that we are in an interesting time of transition when it comes to transport this discussion will span ways of getting around Denbigh and what could be done to improve its future.

Wrth baratoi ar gyfer ei gweithdy a’i thrafodaeth ddydd Sadwrn, dechreuodd Louise edrych ar sut byddai hi’n cyrraedd yr oriel ar drafnidiaeth gyhoeddus. Y canlyniad oedd llwybr wedi’i ddargyfeirio’n fawr gan ddefnyddio llawer o fysiau a fyddai’n cymryd diwrnod llawn pe bai pob cysylltiad yn llwyddiannus, ond o bosibl hyd yn oed ddau ddiwrnod os na fyddai. Teimlai Louise fod yn rhaid cael ffordd well ac felly dechreuodd gynllunio ar y cyd â SusTrans i reidio ar eBeic o’i chartref yng Nghwmrheidol i The Carriageworks yn Ninbych.
Yng ngeiriau’r artist, mae’n daith a allai ‘fethu’n llwyr’ oherwydd y ffyrdd peryglus a’r diffyg llwybrau beicio. Ond, mae Louise yn teimlo bod y problemau hyn yn danwydd ar gyfer cynnal trafodaethau ddydd Sadwrn. Gan ein bod mewn cyfnod o drawsnewid diddorol o ran trafnidiaeth, bydd y drafodaeth hon yn ymdrin â gwahanol ffyrdd o symud o gwmpas Dinbych, a beth y gellid ei wneud i wella ei dyfodol.
